I read King Lear for the first time my senior year of high school, but I wasn’t unfamiliar with the story. It was one of the favorites in my illustrated book of Shakespeare stories, watered down, prose versions of the plays for children. I found the illustrations from the book while doing Lear google searches, and man did I have a nostalgia moment. As you can see, my concept of Lear growing up was very much something of a fairy tale.
